Past Litters
2021 Spring Litter-Covid and puppy love continues.
2020 – The year of Covid 19 and puppy cuteness!
Last year we bred our 2nd generation dog Sherlock (golden retriever x yellow Labrador) with our Purebred Murray river curly coated retriever Pepper.

The result was 10 beautiful healthy puppies.

It was a very hard life for these puppies, with 27 acres in the beautiful Adelaide hills in which to run and play with lots of sheep, horses, poultry and kangaroos to stare and sniff at.

Our puppies developed their love of felines from their parents and could be often found making puppy play bows to our bemused cats. The pup’s coats even at birth could be clearly defined as crimped (latter to turn curly), wavy/flat or a combination of the two. As the pups grew some of their coats took on a wavy look as their coats lengthened however their birth coats proved to be the best indicators for how their adult coats would turn out.

Out of the ten puppies born we kept the curliest coated girl Lucy (white collar) to continue our tradition of having a generational dog. Her paternal grandmother’s owner (my foster mother) often remarks how Lucy’s sweet loving nature and full body butt wiggle remind her of her grandmother Linnie (Sherlock’s Labrador mother).

Six puppies (including Lucy) remained in South Australia-Purple Evie(wavy/curled coat),Brown Max(Wavy coat), Orange Darcy(curled coat), Lite blue Maxie(flat/Wave coat) and Grey collared Ollie (curled coat). All went to wonderful homes where they lost no time crawling their way into their new families hearts (and often couches) and we are all looking forward to our first 2020 Litter puppy party BBQ in late spring, stay tuned for more photos!

Two of the puppies flew interstate destined for homes in Melbourne, the land of their mother’s ancestry. Kobe (of the green collar and rakish good looks)went on to become the James Bond of Dogs (minus the mistreatment of women) with his excellent temperament and stunning looks making him an Instagram star (@boots_and_Kobe)

His sister Lacey (she of the yellow collar and white back toes) flew with Kobe, destined for a lovely family, her and her brother Kobe still meet up for regular play dates. Lacey is more petite in size but doesn’t let her stature stop her from keeping up with Kobe and every other dog in the park!

Our Red collared little boy was destined to go to NSW, now this one was extra special as it was to go to a little 3 year old boy who had insisted on the puppy being called Batman (before even seeing it), the family had settled on having a Murray river curly coated retriever as they had a friend who had worked closely with the breed and it’s organization and had praised the breed highly and had recommended it as the perfect fit for their family.
However Murrays are traditionally liver colored (the occasional purebred black come up due to the English curly coated retriever ancestry but it is not currently included in the breed standard) and Batman is not really the first name that comes to mind when one sees a brown dog.
It seems that the stars had aligned however as we had a lovely curly coated black puppy (red collar) who’s batman emblem shaped white chest mark clearly denoted that he was the one. This prediction turned out correct as he turned out a perfect black Murray clone (taking heavily after his mother Pepper) and has fitted into their family perfectly.

Last and most certainly not least- our dark blue collared puppy-the one we nicknamed “big boy” (by us as he was 3 kg heavier than his siblings at 10 weeks old) flew all the way to Perth where he currently enjoys outback hikes and plenty of cuddles with his new family. His owner Nicola has in fact been gently nagging me this whole time to finish this website so she can post reviews of just how amazing Oakley (big boy) is.
He and his family will be (hopefully) visiting us next year and we can’t wait to see Oakley and Lucy bounding around amidst the flowering Cape-weed.
Ok Nicola I’ve finally done it! In my defense…I’m bad at web design so it took me much longer than anticipated.
We took him out for his first ever excursion to Bunnings on the day he was to fly to Perth, and he was so relaxed and well behaved that I was asked if he was an assistance dog in training! I think the person was both surprised and relieved when I told her no-Surprised because he had such a comfortable yet observant attitude and relieved because it meant that she was allowed to spend the next five minutes giving him lots of pats and kisses-something you should never do to an assistance dog in training.
